What is hypnosis/hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is an abbreviation of the use of ‘hypnosis in therapy’ So, please bear this in mind, the ‘hypnosis’ included in the session is only one part of the Hypnotherapeutic process.

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness which we all naturally experience on a daily basis, for example when we’re engrossed in a book, or emotionally involved in a film, or simply daydreaming. Most of us have had that experience when you’re driving along and your conscious mind is miles away. You suddenly arrive at your destination and you have no idea of how you’ve got there! What’s happened is that you’ve done the journey so many times that your subconscious has driven the car whilst the busy conscious mind has taken a back seat for a while!

And that shows just how resourceful our subconscious mind really is. This is what makes hypnotherapy so powerful, as while you are in this pleasant relaxed state you are able to access your subconscious mind and your inner resources, so you can resolve conflicts and make the changes you want. It can help you take back control of your life and become more relaxed, confident and happier.

As hypnosis is an increased state of awareness, the majority of clients remember everything that is said to them during hypnosis. I liken the hypnotic state to the way you feel just before falling asleep, when you're totally relaxed but fully aware of everything around you. You are neither asleep nor fully awake.

Please see theFrequently asked questions page to see find out more information about hypnosis and hopefully these will expel the myths of this very beneficial therapy.
