What is relaxation therapy?
Relaxation
therapy - A lot of people
grossly underestimate the power and huge benefits of relaxation, it is
often the case that people ‘don’t have the time’ to relax, relaxation is
not on their priority list! Relaxation can be beneficial practising for
just 10 minutes a day. Relaxation therapy can be applied in various ways,
dependent on your individual needs. I widely use visualisation, muscle
tensing and breathing techniques, and teach you how to use these techniques
on yourself, giving you the tools to practice deep relaxation regularly.
You may choose to attend individual sessions such as learning
Progressive Muscle Relaxation, or perhaps a session helping you to prepare
for events and/or situations that currently make you feel anxious or not in
control of your mind and body. You may choose to have a 2hr session of
relaxation therapy, learning a variety of techniques to help you relax
effectively and release tension.
Relaxation Therapy is fundamentally about educating the body and
mind anew, that there are ways of responding to stress other than the
patterns we appear to be locked in to, and is about us working together to
make positive changes in all aspects of your lifestyle and to reduce stress
levels.
How often do you make time to allow yourself to
relax? I can imagine that for most your answer will be… hardly ever.
How many times do you sit down after a hard day, put your feet up
and watch the telly? Again this is what a lot of people do and this is
probably one of the least relaxing past-times that you can have, imagine
all the emotional and physical responses you have as you watch a 30 minute
episode of Corrie, (or it might be East Enders!!) for example, you feel
involved in the emotional strife of each of the characters, imagine how
much energy your mind puts into following the emotional turmoil’s of each
character…
You may not sit down at all, you may continue work, such as ironing
whilst watching the telly, in between packing the children’s lunch boxes
tomorrow and wondering what to cook for tea tomorrow night after you have handed
that completed spreadsheet in to your boss at work tomorrow and picked the
kids up from their childminder! Until you finally fall into bed exhausted,
not giving your body chance to unwind, you wake due to the alarm going off
in the morning, unfulfilled by sleep and the whole process begins
again… Does this sound like you? If it does you could benefit greatly
from learning how to practice relaxation effectively… and/or have
hypnotherapy and learn techniques and tools for managing stress… I find a
lot of people will say to me that ‘all
these things in my life still need to be done regardless, I don’t even know
where or how to begin to practice relaxation, and I don’t have the time…
how can relaxation/hypnotherapy help me?’
Many of the people I speak to feel that if they take time out to
practise regular relaxation, that this will somehow slow them down, or make
them less efficient and this is not the case, allowing time to relax
properly and effectively can help the mind think more clearly and allows your
body to become re-energised and re-vitalised, you will probably find you
function even more efficiently, and will be less tired and lethargic.
Learn Progressive Relaxation – 45 min
session approx.
The benefit of this
session is that not only will you have a full guided session with me but
you will learn how to do it yourself. PR is very beneficial for so many
people. Tension causes the actual muscle fibres to shorten, tension build
up occurs because the body doesn’t get chance to balance itself and relax
fully, this can effect many people in different ways. By systematically
tensing and relaxing various muscle groups and by learning to discriminate
the feelings of tension and relaxation, a person can completely transform
muscular contractions into a deeply relaxed state. This treatment is
especially beneficial for those who suffer anxiety or sleep difficulties
such as insomnia, as well as for relieving tensions during the day quickly
and easily the more you practice this technique.

Progressive Muscle Relaxation & Guided
Visualisation – Up to 1 hour session
Visualisation techniques
are great for preparing yourself for presentations, exams, interviews,
visualising yourself in control of these situations and them working out as
you would like is a great way of building your confidence before the big
event . It is also very beneficial for general relaxation and other
ailments. Great for dental/doctor and medical procedure fears. You can
choose a place such as a woodland walk or a tranquil beach, wherever is a
harmonious, relaxing place for you. The influence of the imagination on the
actual experience of our lives has powerful effect. People generally do not
realise the impact our thoughts and mental imagery has on the types of
experiences we find ourselves in. The way we think and the images we hold
in our minds about ourselves, others and the world around us shape our
relationships and participation. The mind cannot be underestimated. In
today’s world, where personal growth and development programmes have become
part of our society, the use of the mind as a creative tool is an accepted
principle. Thoughts and their consequential images provide feelings. The
mental patterns we store within us govern and sometimes control our
emotional responses and behaviour. The body and mind are linked by a
complex system of neurological responses, neuro-chemical secretions that
are triggered by what passes through the brain/mind and consequently,
effects our physiology. The brain being a ‘computer’ the mind being our
conscious awareness that exists within and beyond our intellectual make-up.
The release of emotional response does not distinguish between reality and
visualisation which is why visualisation is so very beneficial to
relaxation.
